“Could I Pray?”

This post was written by Kathy Walker, from Bethany’s Prayers and Squares ministry. Prayers and Squares creates prayer quilts for people who are struggling with health or personal issues.

I had the most wonderfully uplifting Saturday morning when I set up the quilts for the last prayer quilt tying! You may not be aware, but there is a lot of activity at the church on Saturday mornings with Upward Sports. There were three young boys and their mother in the lobby. One of the little guys came right over and asked what I was doing. I told him that I was setting up these quilts so that people could pray for a little boy and a lady who was in the hospital. And after they prayed, they could tie a knot in the quilt so that the little boy and the lady would know that someone had prayed for them.

“Could I pray?” he asked. “Of course you can!” I replied. So he bowed his head, closed his eyes and put his hands together in prayer. Then he made the sign of the cross. So Hudson got his first prayer. Meanwhile, his Mom noticed that he had left their group and had come over with the other two children and wondered what he was doing. I explained the ministry again and the boys immediately asked if they too could pray and tie an knot. Mom got busy reading the prayer cards and bowed her head and prayed as well.

Then they noticed the second quilt and asked if they could pray for the lady in the hospital. “Yes!” I replied, and the process started again. Four prayers gone up for Sandy! And then this…. “Can we do it again?” So I happily told them that we needed to save some ties for other people to tie, but they could each have a card and pray for Hudson and Sandy at home. ‘Thank you!” they said and went on their way like the blessing had been all theirs.

My heart was bursting with joy! Oh… to always have that child-like trust to approach the God Who first approached us!

We will have three quilts displayed this weekend for three dear people who need to know that they are not forgotten and that God’s love reaches to them in their time of need. Please stop by and experience the blessing of blessing others with prayer.

But Jesus said, “Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matt. 19:14
