Bethany has many opportunities for you to embrace your calling and serve in one of our ministry areas. From serving the infants in our BabyZone nursery  to visiting people in the hospital to serving behind the scenes, there is a place for you! We invite you to check out the opportunities below!

 

 

Children

  • BabyZone Caregiver
    Caring for infants and/or toddlers during Sunday morning service.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting. Volunteers must be 16+ years of age for infant care; 13+ years of age for toddler care.

    Time Commitment: Once a month.

  • BLAST Bin Babe/Bro
    Prepare bins for the BLAST leaders before the weekly, Wednesday-evening program.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting.

    Time Commitment: Weekly, from September to end of April.

  • BLAST Helper
    Assist the BLAST leader by coming to class prepared to help set up room for that evening’s activities and help the leader in whatever way you can.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting. Helpers must be 14+ years of age.

    Time Commitment: Weekly (Wednesday evenings) from September to April

  • BLAST Leader
    Teach children in a biblically sound and creative manner, challenge children in their faith and build relationships with your group.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting.

    Time Commitment: Weekly (Wednesday evenings) from September to April.

  • BLAST Registration Desk
    Assist parents in signing in their child(ren) before the BLAST program begins.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting. Must be 16+ years of age.

    Time Commitment: Every two to three weeks, depending on number of volunteers.

  • KidZone Bin Babe/Bro
    Prepare Small Group leader’s bins for that Sunday’s KidZone lesson. For further info contact Children’s Ministry staff.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting.

    Time Commitment: Weekly, from September to June.

  • KidZone Large Group Leader
    Teach the Bible lesson, lead worship, lead the Small Group leaders in your age group. For more detailed info contact the Children’s Ministry staff.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting.

    Time Commitment: Weekly (Sunday mornings), September to June.

  • KidZone Main Registration Desk
    Hand out name tags and claim checks to children and parents (Age 3-Gr. 3) that attend KidZone.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting.

    Time Commitment: Once every four to five weeks, depending on total number of volunteers. Volunteers must be 16+ years of age.

  • KidZone Small Group Helper
    Be prepared to interact with children in small group, be willing to help the small group leader in whatever way needed, help clean up the classroom after KidZone is over.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting. Helpers for Age 2-4 are placed on a schedule and must be 12+ years old. Helpers for SK-Gr 6 are weekly commitment, are mentored to become a leader and must be 14+ years of age. 

    Time Commitment: Every week OR once every five to six weeks depending on volunteer numbers.

  • KidZone Small Group Leader
    Build relationships and intentionally shepherd the children. For further info contact Children’s Ministry staff.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting. Weekly commitment and must be 15-16+ years of age. 

    Time Commitment: Weekly (Sunday mornings), from September to June.

  • KidZone Tech
    Support large group leaders in KidZone by providing songs and DVD/video clips for weekend lessons.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting. Must be age 12+ and is a scheduled commitment. 

    Time Commitment: Once every two or three weeks, depending on total number of volunteers.

  • KidZone Visitor Desk
    Greeting and registering first-time visitors to KidZone.

    Requirements: Complete volunteer application form, have a police check completed, provide references, be interviewed by Children’s Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Protect meeting. Volunteers must be 16+ years of age.

    Time Commitment: Once every three or four weeks (depending on total number of volunteers).

Youth

  • Youth Small Group Leader
    Looking for those with a desire to co-lead a small group of students (grades 7-12) on Tuesday evenings.

    Requirements: Must complete a volunteer application form, have a police check completed provide references, be interviewed by Youth Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Prevent meeting. Volunteers must be 20+ years old. 

    Time Commitment: Every Tuesday evening, September to June.

  • TAG Team Leader
    Looking for those with a desire to co-lead a small group of Jr. Youth students (Gr 7-8) on Tuesday evenings in our TAG Teams. These are various interest groups.

    Requirements: Must complete a volunteer application form, have a police check completed provide references, be interviewed by Youth Ministry staff and attend one Plan-to-Prevent meeting. Volunteers must be 20+ years old. 

    Time Commitment: Every Tuesday evening, September to February.

Health & Safety

  • B.E.R.T. Volunteer
    Contact:

    B.E.R.T. (Bethany Emergency Response Team) is a team of trained volunteers that provide emergency first aid to sick or injured individuals during Saturday evening and Sunday morning services. We are looking to expand the team to include all types of volunteers including post-secondary students, homemakers, teachers, business and medical professionals, engineers and retirees.

    Requirements: Valid Standard First Aid/CPR-C, orientation on B.E.R.T. protocols, current police check, must be at least 18 years old.

    Time Commitment: During the service plus 15 mins. before and after the service, at least once per month. Attendance to quarterly team meetings.

Group Life

  • Bible Study Leader
    Our Bible study leaders lead and teach from the Bible on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for the purpose of teaching the Bible and making personal application. Bible study leaders work under the oversight of Group Life Ministries and ensure updated communication between Group Life Ministries and the Bible study group.

    Requirements: Have a current police check and be interviewed by Group Life staff. 

    Time Commitment: Prepare diligently with prayer and Bible study in order to teach God’s truth. Bible studies can be over a certain amount of weeks or over a longer time period. 

  • Large Event Volunteer
    Throughout the year, Bethany holds large group events. Volunteers will lead/organize large group events, recruit volunteers, manage administrative oversight (could include finances), communicate and invite people to participate.

    Requirements: Have a current police check and be interviewed by Group Life staff. 

    Time Commitment: This varies depending on the scale of the event and involvement required.

  • Life Team Leader

    Life Team Leader

    Our life team leaders lead/facilitate a weekly or bi-weekly life team (small group) with the purpose of helping people take their next steps growing as a follower/learner in their walk with Christ. They are responsible for implementing the attributes of a life team. As a life team leader, you would work under the oversight of Group Life Ministries and ensure updated communication between Group Life Ministries and the life team.

    Requirements: Complete life team leader application form, current police check and be interviewed by Group Life staff. 

    Time Commitment: Attend Group Life leader meetings for training, time for preparing study material, and meet with your life team for 2-3 hours a week. You are encouraged to spend time praying for members of the life team and communicate with them to encourage connection.

Welcoming & First Impressions

  • Welcome Centre Volunteer
    This is one of the first places newcomers visit to take the first steps in connecting with others at Bethany. At the Welcome Centre, newcomers can have their questions addressed and pick up a Welcome Information package. Offer them a sincere welcome and be friendly. Assist people in their needs of finding rooms, ministries, etc.

    Requirements: Church orientation, basic knowledge of various programs, welcoming and friendly demeanour and completed police check,

    Time Commitment: 30-45 minutes prior to service and between services. Once or sometimes twice a month. Commitment for at least one year.

Pastoral Care

  • Pastoral Care Visitor
    A serving opportunity for individuals or couples who enjoy visiting those who are lonely, elderly, are unable to attend church regularly and/or who are not connected to a life team. Care receivers are usually in their home, in a retirement residence or in the hospital.

    Requirements: The screening/training process involves a discussion with the coordinator of the ministry, as well as, training/meetings as arranged.

    Time Commitment: Volunteers are asked to maintain regular contact at least once a month. The time of each visit may vary from 15 mins. to 1 hour. Visitation may occur for one month to several months and is dependent upon the needs of the care receiver. Although most of the contact is in person, the occasional phone call may occur. A minimum commitment as a volunteer of 2 years is appreciated.

  • Stephen Minister
    Caring, compassionate volunteers with a desire to come alongside an individual of the same gender who is struggling with a difficult life situation.

    Requirements: An application form is filled out and an interview conducted with 2 Stephen Ministry leaders. References are asked for and checked.

    Time Commitment: The volunteer commits to 50 hours of training, over a period of 5 months, then 2 years of weekly meetings with his/her assigned care receiver lasting approximately one hour and biweekly meetings with a peer supervision group for accountability and support.

Rentals

  • Hosts

    From school graduations and concerts, to charity auctions and conferences, we always have fun! Contracted hosts assist with setting up and tearing down tables and chairs, serving food and/or beverages, clearing tables, taking out garbage, keeping bathrooms clean and stocked, directing visitors and greeting guests among other duties, as required. These positions are paid on an hourly basis depending on event. One of the best things about Bethany Community Church is the community and rental events that take place here and the opportunity for us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The reason these events are so successful is because of the contracted events staff that help out.

Support & Recovery

  • "The Landing" Leader
    Our Landing Leaders journey with students through the hurts, habits and hangups of life; helping them to choose hope and healing through Jesus’ power and healthy choices learned through the 8 Principles. This specialized support and recovery program runs every Friday night (excluding long weekends) through the calendar year from 7-9:30 pm.

    Requirements: Interested individuals are first asked to read through our Information Packet, as well as hand in a completed Application Form. Following that will be an interview with the ministry director and a review of our Commitment Form. New leaders are also required to participate in Celebrate Recovery for a short time. Additional training and conferences are offered at various times through the year and leaders are strongly encouraged to participate.

    Time Commitment: Commitment: Leaders commit to a rotating Friday night schedule that sees them “on duty” two Fridays (6:15-9:45) and then “off” the third week. Leaders also commit an additional 1.5 hours a week of prep, prayer and connection time with students. Additionally, all leaders commit to our monthly Leader Development Nights, which are held the third Wednesday from 7-9pm.

Technical Arts

  • Camera Operator
    Set up, operate, and tear down a video camera for the live stream of our services.
    Requirements: No previous experience necessary, but a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills.
    Time Commitment: 1-2 times per month, depending on your availability. Currently live streaming the 9 am Sunday service only. Additional live streaming for special services a few times throughout the year. Training available during Saturday services (not live streamed) and “on-the-job”.
  • Live Stream Graphics Operator
    Operate our graphics program for the live stream of our services. Start and stop the live stream feed and recordings of services. (Does not involve any graphic design or programming.)
    Requirements: No previous experience necessary, but a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills.
    Time Commitment: 1-2 times per month, depending on your availability. Currently live streaming the 9 am Sunday service only. Additional live streaming for special services a few times throughout the year. Training available during Saturday services (not live streamed) and “on-the-job”.
  • Live Stream Director/Switcher

    Switch between video sources during the live stream, including cameras and graphics. Instruct camera operators during service to provide shots for a smooth, professional looking presentation. Start/stop live stream feed.

    Requirements: Previous experience is an asset, however not necessary as training is provided. More importantly, you must have a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills.

    Time Commitment: 1-2 times per month, depending on your availability. Currently live streaming the 9 am Sunday service only. Additional live streaming for special services a few times throughout the year. Training available during Saturday services (not live streamed) and “on-the-job”.

     

     

  • Live Stream Audio Operator

    Description: Mix each channel of the live audio feed using ProTools to create a professional- sounding output.

    Requirements: Previous experience is an asset, however not necessary as training is provided. More importantly, you must have a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills.

    Time Commitment: 1-2 times per month, depending on your availability. Currently live streaming the 9 am Sunday service only. Additional live streaming for special services a few times throughout the year. Training available during Saturday services (not live streamed) and “on-the-job”.

     

     

  • Editor

    Edit weekend services using Final Cut Pro to create a smooth, professional video presentation and podcast. Additional video production editing may be requested from time to time.

    Requirements: Previous experience is requested. Additional training is provided. More importantly, you must have a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills.

    Time Commitment: 1-2 times per month, depending on your availability. Service editing to be completed same day using computers at the church. Additional in-house production work will be available from time to time.

  • Lighting Operator

    Using a simple “one button at a time” process, the lighting person triggers the auditorium lighting changes for all three weekend services to provide an inviting atmosphere suitable to Bethany’s philosophies.

    Requirements: No previous experience necessary, but a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills. Training provided.
    Time Commitment: 1-2 times per month, depending on your availability. Full weekend commitment for Saturday evening service and both services on Sundays when serving.
  • Service Graphics Operator

    Operate our graphics program to display announcements, song lyrics, sermon slides and other messages during services.  (Does not include any graphic design or programming.)

    Requirements: No previous experience necessary, but a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills.
    Time Commitment: Once per month or bi-monthly. Rehearsals on Thursday evenings, plus a full weekend commitment for Saturday evening service and both services on Sundays.
  • Service Audio Operator

    Mix all audio sources of the live environment to create a professional sounding presentation within the auditorium.

    Requirements: Previous experience is requested. Additional training is provided. You must also have a willingness to serve well, learn and to improve your skills.

    Time Commitment: 1-3 times per month, depending on your availability and experience. Rehearsals on Thursday evenings, plus a full weekend commitment for Saturday evening service and both services on Sundays.
