We are continuing in our series, Mic Drop, by looking at one of my favourite, and also most confusing, passages in the Bible.
This is the passage found in Mark 4:35-41 in which Jesus falls asleep on the boat, in the midst of a storm, and then miraculously calms the wind and the waves.
I love this passage, because even though most of us haven’t had this exact experience, I think that we can all relate.
I think we’re all familiar with being in a dark, stormy, and dangerous place. I think we’ve all experienced difficulty, and wondered why Jesus is sleeping and not active in saving us. I think we all know what it’s like to be in a terrible place and desperate to find a way through it.
I think we’ve all asked, “How do I make it through the storms that come in this life?”
So, that’s what we are going to be looking at this weekend. And, to do that, we are going to examine some key questions…
a) How dangerous was this crossing of the sea?
b) Why, and how, was Jesus sleeping in the midst of a storm?
c) Why do the disciples respond with fear, rather than with faith?
d) And, most of all, what does this mean for us?
I hope you can join us!
