The Meaning of a Prayer Quilt

Bethany’s Prayers and Squares ministry makes and distributes prayer quilts to those who need prayer for various reasons. The following is a note of thanks the team received a few weeks ago, and we thought it was worth sharing:

“I would like to thank you so much for your prayers and selfless service that is such a blessing to me. As I cover myself daily with the quilt, I am reminded of your prayers that cover me and comfort me….”

Whether you are one of our faithful quilters, or one of our ‘kiosk attenders’, someone who quietly prays at home or someone who regularly comes by to pray and tie a knot – we all have a significant role to play. All of it works together so that we can be a blessing to someone in need of God’s help to get through the battle that they are facing.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph.2:10. In my mind’s eye, I see a quilt with various colours and pieces of fabric – all diverse, yet coming together to make a beautiful blanket that will offer comfort and warmth. We are that quilt and we too are held together by those knots of prayer that our families and friends have offered for us.

So when you see a quilt in the lobby, do come by and tie a knot in it. Take the card with the prayer requests home with you or pray right there – either is acceptable – and you will be a part of this ministry that blesses those in need. And remember, “it’s not about the quilt – it’s about the prayer.”

Cor was given a Prayer Quilt last September and he sleeps under it each night at home. It is a beautiful reminder of the many prayers being offered for us!
Thank you to all of the wonderful people involved in this ministry.
